BYD Dolphin: Convenient Companion For New Moms
After getting married, most of my transportation relied on my husband’s car. However, ever since becoming a mom, coordinating daily activities, such as dropping off our baby at early education classes and managing my work commute, to align perfectly with my husband’s work schedule became quite inconvenient.
So, I decided it was time to purchase an everyday commuter car for myself. And here’s how I met my BYD Dolphin.
Choosing the BYD Dolphin
When I was in the process of choosing a car, my top priority was to find an all-electric vehicle. I looked at various brands and models, but either they were way beyond my budget or didn’t offer the features I desired. After comparing options, I ultimately decided to go for the BYD Dolphin 2023 Model 420km Fashion Edition.
Since acquiring this car, many of my colleagues and friends have been curious about why I chose the Dolphin. I’ve already driven it for over 2000 kilometers, and I’d like to share my thoughts with all of you. I hope this can provide some insights to those who are considering purchasing a compact electric car.
The Dolphin's Allure
To be honest, we often say that everyone has different aesthetics, and we shouldn’t judge whether a car is worth buying solely based on its appearance. However, when I first saw the Dolphin, I couldn’t help but feel that its design was not only attractive but also incredibly refined and stylish.
Stylish Exterior Design
Moreover, this car has a distinctive presence. When it’s parked among other models, it’s easy to spot. The overall design of the car is beautifully rounded, the front end looks refined, and the front face exudes a cute and somewhat ‘soft’ appeal.
NFC: Unlock Without Keys
This car also comes with NFC functionality. So, if you ever forget your keys one day, you can simply use your smartphone to unlock the doors, making it both convenient and practical.
Perhaps due to its compact size, the proportions of this little Dolphin are quite harmonious. The wheel design is unique and adds a sense of stability to the overall look.
I feel that the design featuring the tail lights running through the rear contributes to BYD’s consistent styling, adding a lot of personality. It enhances the visual appeal and depth of the rear. When driving at night, it serves as a good reminder to vehicles behind, improving safety.Â
Here’s a full view of the rear end, it’s both full and stylish. Additionally, this design ensures that the trunk space is more spacious, meeting practical usage needs.
Interior Comfort and Features
The Dolphin’s exterior exudes a sense of sporty style, and the interior follows suit. With its fashionable color scheme and sporty seats, it greatly enhances the overall style and taste of this compact electric car. The seats are also quite comfortable, with plush cushioning.
Many parts of the interior feature soft materials, providing a pleasant tactile experience. Moreover, there’s virtually no noticeable odor, indicating that the materials used are environmentally friendly. The circular design of the air vents adds a special touch of quality.Â
This car boasts a rich array of safety features, including a 360° panoramic camera, automatic parking, and remote driving, all of which are highly practical. The 360° panoramic camera, in particular, makes parking, reversing, and maneuvering much more convenient for me.Â
I also have a fondness for the intelligent touchscreen, which can automatically rotate – it’s pretty cool. The voice recognition control system allows for easy operation of functions like climate control, music playback, and phone calls, and it’s impressively smooth.
Spacious Design
Now, let me tell you more about the space in this car. Despite being classified as a compact car, the Dolphin offers a surprisingly roomy interior. With a 2700mm wheelbase, even with my 176cm height, I have nearly two fists of legroom in the rear seat.Â
It’s also spacious enough width-wise to comfortably seat three adults without feeling crowded. This car is perfectly suitable for a family of five.
Now, let’s talk about energy consumption, which I believe is a crucial concern for most of us as it affects our daily driving costs. I mainly use the Dolphin for city commuting to work and running errands on weekends, such as grocery shopping or going to the park.Â
My usual practice is to keep the Dolphin in its economy mode and set the regenerative braking mode to a higher level. I’ve calculated that the Dolphin’s electricity cost per kilometer doesn’t exceed 1.5 cents($0.015), usually ranging from 0.7 to 0.8 cents($0.007 to $0.008).Â
This is incredibly cost-effective. Even compared to some so-called fuel-efficient Japanese compact cars, which typically cost around 5.5 cents($0.055) per kilometer in fuel, my Dolphin is far more economical.
Conclusion
In summary, the Dolphin is an excellent value as a family car, considering its cost-saving benefits and practicality for daily use.
